What Is Ecotourism?

According to research, eco-tourism has developed within the last 20 years. Both lovers of nature and companies that provide nature tours have come together in concern that their vacation tours are putting environments and different species in harm’s way. Consequently, a larger emphasis and concern have been placed on tourists and companies to watch what effects holidays have on not only the environment, but the local people of the areas, as well. Eco-tourism is the act of being responsible when you travel to natural areas. One must do their part in conserving the environment and maintaining the well-being of those who live in the area in question. Not only does this concern those who take eco-tourism holidays in natural areas, but also in places that have benefits that affect locals and the environment. “Sustainable Tourism” is a popular term used to describe particular ways of traveling that will affect the environment and local people. However, these two terms are similar in goals, and it is hard to pinpoint any noticeable differences between them.

Eco Tourism Holidays

Eco-tourism holidays are designed with many different areas of being environmentally friendly. For instance, you may stay in accommodations that have been built with both local and natural materials. The staff of your accommodations could be built from local people, so the jobs are supported by the townsfolk. Eco-tourism holidays should go out of their way to preserve the environment and stay true to the local cultures and customs. An eco-tourism holiday could be a walking holiday, an animal conservation holiday, a desert tour, and more. Taking an eco-tourism holiday does not have to be uncomfortable. There are many hotels and agencies that cater to eco-tourism holidays, yet with a comfortable offer. When travelers learn and respect the country that they are traveling and staying in, the holiday maker benefits, as well. A common misconception is that eco-tourism holidays cost more, but this certainly does not have to be the case. Many resort hotels are built by using energy saving devices, such as automatic lights and water saving measures that keep costs low. One big trend in hotels worldwide is not washing linens every day when you stay in one of their rooms. Instead, there is a set time period for washing, or you as the customer can request a wash done if you think it is needed.

Do Ecotourism Holidays Make A Difference?

Anyone can make a difference in eco-friendly situations. There are many holidays that do make a difference directly, such as relief efforts after a major natural disaster, or helping neighborhoods out with conservation projects. Some travel foundations encourage their tourists to visit remote areas of the inland islands in less-developed countries. They encourage the purchases of local food and products which help keep the people of the communities alive and a bit wealthier. An experience with an eco-tourism holiday can not only make a difference in the area you are out to help, but also give you a satisfying and rewarding experience that you will treasure forever.
